THE FIRST 50 YEARS

1962

  • Inception of the Illinois Trappers Association

  • Hosted first ITA convention at New Salem State Historic Park, Petersburg, IL

  • Hosted National Trappers Association convention at Pere Marquette State Park

 

1963

  • Hosted National Trappers Association convention at Pere Marquette State Park

 

1973

  • Fought and defeated a Bill to ban the use of all foothold traps unless modified to certain specifications

  • Fought and defeated a Bill to ban the use of 330 Conibear traps in Illinois

 

1977

  • Fought and defeated a Bill aimed at the outlaw of all trapping in Illinois

 

1979

  • Sponsored a Bill to ban traps with teeth and the use of 330 Conibears on land

 

1983

  • Fought and defeated a Bill to ban the use of 330 Conibears

  • Supported implementation of Trapper Education Program administered by the Illinois Department of Conservation

 

1987

  • Hosted 25th Anniversary ITA convention in Goodfield, Illinois

 

1988

  • Hosted National Trappers Association convention in Peoria, Illinois

 

1989

  • Assisted in establishment of the State Furbearer Stamp Fund

  • Assisted in crafting and passing a Bill making non-powered snare use legal in Illinois

 

1990

  • Created the Richard Daniel Memorial Scholarship Fund

 

1991

  • Awarded first Richard Daniel Memorial Scholarship

 

1992

  • Supported passage of a Bill designed to allow snaring on land

 

2001

  • Sponsored first “modern day” ITA fur auctions in Eureka and Fairfield, Illinois

 

2003

  • Hosted National Trappers Association convention in Bloomington, Illinois

 

2007

  • Sponsored first ITA Youth Trappers Camp held in Carlyle, Illinois

 

2012

  • Played crucial role in establishment of a river otter season in Illinois

  • Succeeded in procuring an extended muskrat season in Illinois

  • Hosts 50th Anniversary ITA convention in Lincoln, Illinois
